Subject and Object Pronouns
This article will explain the subject and object pronouns. Many people still have problems with choosing the correct pronoun, this happens due to a lack of educational background which might confuse people, especially second language learners of English.
Subject Pronouns
English grammar asks us to
have the subject before the noun, except for questions.
Example:
I cook pasta on weekends.
In this sentence, “I” is
the subject pronoun performing the action of cooking.
Important! All subject
pronouns are the ones that make the action of a sentence.
Object Pronouns
In English, we have object
pronouns too. These are the pronouns
that receive the action in a sentence. English object pronouns are me, you,
him, her, it, us, and them. If you notice it and you are the
same as subject and object pronouns.
English grammar demands us
to have objects following the verb in a sentence.
Example:
He kissed her.
In this sentence, “He” is
the subject pronoun performing the action of kissing. “Her” is the noun that
receives the action of kissing, it is the object of the sentence or the object
pronoun. You should not use a subject noun after the verb “kissed”.
Examples:
Incorrect: He kissed she.
Incorrect: He kissed I.
Correct: He kissed me.
Correct: He kissed her.
